 TCS HF plus RT-19/ARC-4 (MAH) 140 to 144 Mc AM, 12 or 24 volts d-c. VHF transmitter and a VHF receiver mounted on a single chassis. Both the transmitter and receiver may be pre-tuned for operation on any four crystal controlled frequencies in the 140 to 144 Mc band. One of the four frequencies is intended for plane-to-plane communication. The remaining frequencies are intended for plane-to-ground communication.  Description

 mbs-21.jpg (695788 bytes)    Mobile Radio Transmitting and Receiving Equipment MBS is a-m (cw, mcw, voice) equipment, operating as an air command center on shore for m-f, h-f, and v-h-f two-way communication with aircraft. It is used for fighter air defense, and general air-to-ground communications.
   A 2-1/2 ton truck contains one Radio Transmitting and Receiving Equipment TCS (series), one Radio Transmitting Equipment TCK-4, three Radio Receiving Equipments RCH, Radio Receiver BC-639, and Radio Transmitter BC-640.
A trailer houses a gasoline-engine-driven generator set (PE-99, or equal).
Provision is made for remote control of the equipment.

 Ed KG6UTS says - " The MRC-56 I worked with had the VRC-33 and PRC-33s set up on 40.58 to talk with fire and crash boats as the Navy still had seaplanes. TCS in one MRC had been removed and replaced by an ARC-2.  There was an ARC-27 and ARC-1 to comm with aircraft and a VRC-51 on 140.58 for base (North Island) police. The trailer was deployed for emergency landings etc. "  

BELOW - Andy KD6TKX restored this MRC-56  - " Found on a ranch in Madera Ca where it had been since the 70’s. The radio installation was complete except the ARC-1 and ARC-27. The antennas, masts, awning frame etc were still stowed in the top section. 
The markings were patterned after the originals which were discernible in the paint after careful cleaning."

 The Communication Central AN/MSC-3 is a mobile, self contained, high and low power communication station. The transmitting and receiving equipment, when used with the associated equipment is capable of providing six high powered communication channels, operating on either voice, teletype, or continuous wave (cw). Also provided are one very high frequency (vhf) channel that can operate on voice or modulated continuous wave (mcw), and one ultra high frequency (uhf) channel that can operate on voice teletype or modulated continuous wave (mcw). The system is capable of handling long haul, ship to shore and plane to shore circuits. It is designed as a long range, ground radio communcation unit to be as mobile as possible within the limits of its application. It may be transported by rail, ship or under its own power. The AN/MSC-3 consists of Radio Central AN/MRC-25, Teletypewriter Central AN/MGC-1, Radio Transmitter Central AN/MRT-3, Radio Central AN/MRC-17 and Communication Central Office Group AN/MSA-1.
